If you are already familiar with the Psmlighting range, you may have noticed the ‘B3’ in some product references. B3 indicates that the luminaire in question is fitted with a ball joint. But what exactly is it, and what is its purpose?
At Psmlighting, we almost always use a ball joint on pendant lights with a fixed rod. At the end of the rod, a small ball is attached that fits into a 16 mm opening. Such an opening is provided in the ceiling base you select with your pendant.

That ball joint is, of course, not there by accident and does indeed serve a purpose. The saying ‘to bump into the lamp’ sometimes happens quite literally, and on top of that, pendant lights are often cleaned and dusted. In such cases, a ball joint is anything but a luxury. The small ball ensures that the lamp does not remain completely rigid, preventing the rod from breaking. With such a ball joint, the pendant moves along smoothly and naturally returns to a vertical position.
How can you recognize the items with a ball joint?
Most items equipped with a ball joint have the code B3 in the order reference. If B3 is not mentioned in the reference, you can determine it in three other ways:
Check the ‘end type’ indicated on the website and in the catalogue. If it says B3, the luminaire is equipped with a ball joint.
Look at the product image. If you see a small ball at the top, the pendant light is equipped with a ball joint.
Check the product description. If it says ‘pendant light with ball joint,’ then you’ve got it right.

How do I find the right ceiling base for items with B3?
Psmlighting offers a wide range of recessed and surface-mounted bases for pendants with a ball joint. The B3 designation can always be found in the description of the base in question.
In addition, there are different ways to mount your pendants on or in the ceiling.
Single – with a recessed rosette
Single – with a surface-mounted rosette
Multiple – on a single ceiling base
In the first two cases, Psmlighting provides a hole in the rosette as standard. So all you need to do is order your desired pendant and rosette, and you’re ready to go.
If you want to combine multiple pendant lights on a single rosette, you will need the following:
Choose the ceiling base.
Rondo Box – Texo – Maestro – JubaChoose the number of holes that need to be provided in the base with B3.
The correct order reference for this is 000B3. This code means that we will drill the same number of holes in the ceiling base as the number of pendant lights with a ball joint.Choose the pendant with B3.
Include a drawing with your order showing how the holes should be drilled, to avoid any misunderstandings
